Cambridge Jazz Festival Choir

The Cambridge Jazz Festival Choir has a membership of around 60 people of varying ages.  They sing jazz, soul and gospel inspired arrangements, and are led and accompanied by Musical Director Andi Hopgood.

Andi Hopgood is a respected vocalist and musician, having graduated with an MMus in Jazz from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2005. Her musical interests cross jazz, blues, pop, and soul, and she has a passion for improvisation.

 

Andi has a love for sharing her enthusiasm for music with all kinds of groups. From care homes and schools, to workplaces, swimming pools and festivals, singing builds bonds and forms community. 

 

Andi has years of experience working with singers as a workshop leader, musical director and arranger. She is currently leading choirs including Suffolk Soul Singers, Noteriety, Suffolk Teachers’ Choir and the Cambridge Jazz Festival Choir. She also runs a weekly wellbeing singing group called Singing for the Soul. Andi regularly delivers music and vocal workshops in many settings across the east.

 

Andi is a member of the London Vocal Project led by Pete Churchill. Being a member of LVP has led to work with Sir John Dankworth, Dame Cleo Laine and Bobby McFerrin.  More recently LVP recorded the critically acclaimed CD ‘Mirrors’ with Kenny Wheeler and Norma Winstone MBE.  In 2017, a collaboration with the jazz singer/lyricist Jon Hendricks, led to LVP performing the world premiere of Jon Hendricks' ‘Miles Ahead’ in New York.
