Ted Morcaldi is an American guitarist leading a new trio with bassist Joel Humann and drummer Joshua Blackmore. After a five month weekly residency in Cambridge, they’ve gone into the studio to record what will be his second guitar trio album. The previous recording from his time living in Brooklyn, titled “Re-entry”, included Barcelona-born bassist Manel Fortia and Buz Donald on drums, and has been featured numerous times on Pete Butchers’ Cambridge Jazz Radio. The repertoire of his new trio is expanding from where the last one left off, with new compositions inspired by modern harmonies and sonically textured improvisations that take influence from Fourth World music. Mixed with compositions by Paul Motion, John Abercrombie, Collin Walcott, David Bowie and Joni Mitchell, it makes for an exciting range of music from this group.
